FAQ

What is the Technical Equity Experience Survey (TechEES) and why is it important?
The Technical Equity Experience Survey (TechEES) is the first-ever global survey of women, male, and non-binary technologists of its kind. It gives us an opportunity to compare and share our lived experiences in the technology field so that the industry can learn how to empower tech women of all backgrounds. It is part of our 50/50 by 2025 strategy to accelerate and scale equity for all women in tech worldwide. The survey findings will guide the industry on how to improve intersectional gender equity in the workplace. It will also inform AnitaB.org about whether our 50/50 by 2025 strategy is working, as well as vital feedback for how we can improve our services to be inclusive of all women.
What is the timeline for this survey?
The TechEES Survey will open on September 26, 2019, and will close on December 20, 2019.
What does the survey ask about?
The survey asks about your experiences as an individual in your place of work or school, including questions about job satisfaction; gender, racial, ethnic, or other forms of discrimination and harassment; inclusion and belonging in your team and workplace or school; and perceptions of equitable practices in your workplace or school. Additionally, the survey will ask questions about your sense of empowerment, as well as your experiences with AnitaB.org.
Do I need to answer all the questions?
Only a few questions are required; these questions drive the logic of the survey, ensuring that the questions are relevant to your specific workplace. All of the remaining questions are entirely optional, and participants are able to skip any questions they are uncomfortable answering.
Who is conducting this survey?
The survey is administered by AnitaB.org, a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit committed to envisioning a future where the people who imagine and build technology mirror the people and societies for whom they build it. We connect, inspire, and guide women in computing, and organizations that view technology innovation as a strategic imperative. Our social enterprise supports women and allies in technical fields, as well as the organizations that employ them and the academic institutions training the next generation. A full roster of programs helps women grow, learn, and develop their highest potential.
Who can participate in the survey?
Any person 18 years of age or older may participate in this survey. Although this survey is designed to inform us about the experiences of technical women, technologists and non-technologists of any gender are encouraged to participate, as well as individuals in any industry, including nonprofit, government, and academia. Input outside of our research target population provides valuable comparative data. Because individuals in technology experience inequities before ever reaching the workplace, we also welcome all students 18 years of age or older, of any gender or area of study, to participate in this survey.
How is my information protected?
The survey is completely anonymous, meaning we do not collect any identifiable information, including IP addresses, and responses are not linked to the individual who completes the survey. All responses will be reported in the aggregate only.
How long will the survey take?
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

How will my information be used?
Your anonymous survey response will be aggregated with others to report data that help us and the field in three ways:

  • Provide a baseline of information to the field so that it can learn if it is empowering technical women, as well as promoting gender parity in hiring, pay, retention, and VC funding.
  • Help AnitaB.org know if its services are achieving its intended gender equity and pay parity outcomes.
  • Provide vital direction to the future programs and services that AnitaB.org delivers to women, as well as the guidance that it provides to organizations and policy makers.
How will I learn about the result?
A summary report of the survey findings will be publicly released in spring 2020.
Will I receive anything for participating?
Everyone who completes the survey by December 20, 2019 will be entered in a raffle, through which we will be giving out five $100 gift cards and 200 $10 gift cards.
Can I take the survey on my phone or tablet?
Yes. You can take the survey on your phone as well as any other mobile or desktop device.
Whom should I contact with any questions?
Direct any questions about TechEES to TechEES@AnitaB.org.
