UI/UX Designer

Job Title: UI/UX Designer
Department: Marketing
Office Location:
Palo Alto, CA

We are looking for a talented UI/UX Designer to join our marketing team. The role is highly collaborative, working with both external teams of developers and internal teams such as communications, social media, and organizational transformation. Together with our Creative Director, you will build the AnitaB.org digital and interactive experience, evolve our brand expression, and engage in brainstorms and discussions as we implement our programs. You will be an integral member of a small marketing team working through interface design, storytelling, thought leadership, infographics, graphic design, web design, motion graphics, videography, and photography to articulate the AnitaB.org mission and impact.

We are driven but appreciative of one another’s work-life balance, and as an organization we work from the Palo Alto office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and have the option to work remotely the other three days of the week.

Essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Work both cross-functionally and as a key member of our small (but mighty) marketing team
  • Lead design and/or design support for many touch-points: website/digital, email, social, and experiential
  • Design and prototype website and app flows
  • Design (in collaboration with wider team) UI/UX for website and community/event app
  • Collaborate well with individuals and teams with somewhat different skill sets and knowledge to get to the best solution for our audiences

Minimum Qualifications

AnitaB.org is committed to building a team rich with cultural, social, and intellectual diversity. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply, and to identify their strengths and experiences in this area.

We’re looking for someone who’s excited to join and help promote an important movement to transform the course of technology through intersectional inclusiveness. Perhaps you went to the Grace Hopper Celebration, or you watched some of the livestream and want on-board.

Qualifications we’re looking for include:

  • Three or more years of experience designing web and/or app experiences
  • A portfolio displaying a range of conceptual and finished visual design and demonstrating your decision making. Ideally including work for web, mobile app, and social media. If one of these is underrepresented in your professional portfolio, please feel free to include personal or school work
  • A Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, web design, visual design, new media, human-computer interaction, or similar is preferred, but self-taught individuals who have the portfolio and skills are welcome to apply as well
  • “Design thinking” user-centered designer
  • Expertise in Design tools: Adobe CC Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
  • Proficiency in Prototyping tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision etc.
  • Solid understanding of web and mobile technologies (CSS, Responsive Design, HTML, Javascript)
  • Visual design sensibility, open to collaboration with visual designers
  • Confidence without the ego: We absolutely want fabulous design thinking and work, but we are a star organization rather than an organization of stars
  • Flexible and optimistic, creative and open-minded — this is a mission-driven nonprofit, and we’re open to new approaches and new ideas for inspiring our stakeholders and communicating our impact

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants should have a growth mindset and hunger to learn. Please let us know if you have any of the below skills or if you are interested in learning any of them (our organization has the ability to help with this professional development):

  • Infographics and data visualization
  • Illustration and icon design
  • Coding in HTML/CSS
  • Coding in JavaScript, especially + Processing and/or D3
  • Motion graphics
  • 3D
  • Slide presentations/PowerPoint
  • Videography and editing

Local candidates only (San Francisco Bay Area)

Qualified candidates should email a resume and cover letter to employment@anitab.org and indicate UI/UX Designer in the subject line.
