We at AnitaB.org are dedicated to our mission of reaching 50/50 intersectional tech equity by 2025. As such, we are taking steps to ensure that our programs not only empower companies to create diverse teams and build inclusive work environments, but that prove we’re also committed to doing that critical work ourselves.
Through intentional focus on equity of opportunity for all women of various backgrounds as a part of our organizational strategy, we leveled the playing field and the result was amazing diversity in race and ethnicity, and beyond. We have been working hard to lead by example as we advocate for 50/50 intersectional gender equity in tech by 2025, and are proud to say that the diversity of AnitaB.org shifted significantly in just one year’s time. In total, our staff diversity increased by 24% from 2017 to 2018, and the diversity of our leadership team increased by 22%.
One of our core strategies is bringing together people of different backgrounds in an inclusive and engaging environment to work on solutions and create change. We launched an internal survey which found that 77% of our staff feels AnitaB.org is doing a favorable job of building diverse teams and providing equal opportunities for all employees to succeed. This is a 25% increase from last year, and a positive reminder that creating change and promoting an inclusive culture within the workforce is indeed possible. We will continue to work hard to improve our own DEI practices in the years to come.
“We need the most ambitious, inventive, and diverse team to propel us to 50/50 intersectional tech equity by 2025,” said Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President and CEO of AnitaB.org. “To achieve true equity and diversity for all, we need to ask the right questions and measure the right things so that we can take the right kind of action.” Our goal for 2019 will be to further develop our executive team and increase our staff to over 100 employees, while adding a diverse slate of ambitious, inventive individuals to help us with our mission. We will also continue to build a robust suite of year-round AnitaB.org/365 services to include various dimensions of diversity and assist partners in advancing women in technology in the U.S. and beyond.
