The Impact of GHC on Individuals and the Industry

Each year, thousands of women technologists attend Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) to network, learn, and find support and inspiration. Sue Keay, Chief Operating Officer at Australian Centre for Robotic Vision and Superstar of STEM, attended GHC for the first time this year to see how effective and impactful this annual event really is. Sue not only enjoyed her GHC experience, but recognized how important events like these are for the tech industry.

“There are currently more than 200,000 women employed in our tech sector, yet they make up less than 30% of the tech sector workforce,” Sue wrote. “[W]e need to encourage more diversity. The best way to do this is to showcase the achievements of diverse groups in the sector.”

Sue hopes to one day have a Grace Hopper Celebration in Australia to recognize and support Australian women in tech, and to encourage others to pursue STEM careers. Read more about her GHC experience on LinkedIn.
