Mentions Faculty Partner and Volunteer Wins ACM Award

Dr. Valerie Barr, a professor of computer science at Union College, has been awarded the 2016 Outstanding Contribution to ACM Award. Valerie joined the Association for Computing Machinery’s Council for Women in Computing (ACM-W) in 2005, and aimed to increase its impact on women in computing around the world. She launched ACM-W’s scholarship program and newsletter, and more than tripled the number of ACM-W chapters when she became the chair of ACM-W in 2012. Valerie is also an faculty partner and a long-term volunteer for our Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC), speaking at various events such as Academic Corner and the CRA-W sessions at GHC 16.
