Apple recently announced some exciting news about an app development camp they plan to launch in January 2019. The Apple Entrepreneur Camp is designed to encourage women developers and promote diversity in tech, and will be exclusive to female-led organizations and development teams. Participants will receive one-on-one assistance from Apple experts and engineers, as well as support, mentorship, and insights from top Apple leaders.
Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President and CEO of AnitaB.org, spoke with The Next Web (TNW) about why it is so essential to reach out to women who are in or who are considering entering the tech field. “Women leave tech at alarming rates, since they are not encouraged or supported near the levels of their male colleagues,” Brenda explained. “When women look around, they see that it’s not them personally; it’s inherent to the tech industry. That’s discouraging, so they choose to leave the field.
“By providing support to women-founded and women-led businesses, Apple is helping ensure that technology works better for the entire community,” she continued. “This program will provide encouragement, something tangible, that shows that women are appreciated and valued.”
