Tech companies are always trying to come up with new, innovative products; however, company leaders often only worry about how to deliver these products rather than who is creating them. This is a big mistake on their part, as data shows that diverse teams are actually more innovative and perform better than homogeneous teams.
“In the highly competitive world we live in, it’s not an option for technology companies to ignore the lack of diversity within their teams, it’s a business imperative,” said Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President and CEO of AnitaB.org, in an emailed statement to CIO Dive. “Companies need to address inclusion and equity holistically and accept that the same slate of status quo tech workers will not lead us down the path of innovation.”
