Last year, we at AnitaB.org ended our partnership with Uber after Susan Fowler’s blog revealed that the company’s leaders refused to address sexual harassment claims. Our president and CEO, Brenda Darden Wilkerson, has since called upon Uber to publicly release its plans for improving work culture and increasing diversity. “[We] will remain resolute in our determination to see solid evidence of real change at Uber before we are willing to re-engage with their leadership,” she told CNNMoney.
Recently, Uber released its second annual global diversity report. Although diversity numbers have improved, the company still has a long way to go. Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s recently appointed CEO, told CNNMoney that Uber’s leaders are working hard to ensure that diversity improves “across the board.” Uber representatives also claim the company has improved its interview process to mitigate bias, and begun using more-inclusive language in job descriptions.
We hope Uber will continue to work toward creating a more diverse and inclusive environment, and encourage its leaders to publish its plans for creating this change.
