Duy-Loan T. Le

Duy-Loan Le is the 2007 Women of Vision Award winner for Leadership. Duy-Loan is a deeply dedicated Woman of Vision who demonstrates leadership excellence through her work with Texas Instruments, her civic involvement locally and around the world and with her family and friends.These three (family, work and civic involvement) are what Duy-Loan calls “The Triangle of Life.”

Duy-Loan came to America in 1975 at the age of 12 with her mother and eight sisters and brothers. Four years later, she graduated as Valedictorian from Alief Hastings High School at the age of 16. In 1979, just three years later, Duy- Loan received her BSEE from University of Texas with High Honors. Duy-Loan obtained her MBA from University of Houston.

In 1982 at the age of 19, Duy-Loan started as a memory design engineer with Texas Instruments (TI), a world wide company on the list of Fortune 500 and a leader in Digital Signal Processors. Duy-Loan managed world wide project teams and was responsible for bringing up TI memory devices, a multi-billion- product line, with joint venture partners on 3 continents for the “first” time in TI’ s history. She is currently the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) Advanced Technology Ramp Manager, managing development projects using cutting edge technology at Texas Instruments.

Duy-Loan’s leadership track record is long and distinguished. In the technology realm, she became the first Asian, the first woman, and one of the youngest individuals in TI’ s 76-year history to be nominated and elected to the rank of TI Senior Fellow in 2002. This prestigious position (equivalent to Senior Vice President) is granted only to individuals who have extraordinary leadership and technical skills. The Senior Fellow title and its responsibilities are awarded to the top 0.1% of the technical population, or the top .02% of thetotal TI population, based on peer recognition. Duy-Loan holds 22 patents with 8 pending applications.

In her current position as TI’ s Digital Signal Process (DSP) Systems Advanced Technology Ramp Manager, Duy-Loan leads the ramp of the company’ s leading- edge DSP products on the most advanced silicon technology nodes. Her technical leadership accomplishments include: bringing up TI’ s multi-billion dollar memory product line on three continents for the first time; enabling TI to introduce the industry’ s first DSP with 160um bump pitch technology; and delivering the world’ s fastest single core DSP at 1GHZ, which was entered into the “Guinness World Book of Records” in 2004.

Duy-Loan’s remarkable leadership accomplishments are not limited to what she does professionally. In the area of community and philanthropic leadership, she is the Founding Director of the National Science Honor Society, which has 139 chapters in 30 states and promotes science and technology at the high school level. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Mona Foundation, which supports education and social economic development in 10 developing counttries. She is the Founding Director of Sunflower Mission, an organization that provides education and scholarships to children in the poorest areas of Vietnam. She is also working to help advance technology in Vietnam through various university programs and business connections as part of an effort called “Bringing Technology Back to Vietnam.”

In 2004, Duy-Loan became a member of the University of Texas at Austin’ s College of Engineering Foundation Advisory Council. Here, she is helping to shape the university into one of the top five engineering colleges in the nation. She also served a two year term, as one of about 200 leaders internationally, on Commission 125 by request of the President of the University of Texas. This commission is formed ONCE every 25 years and was charged with road mapping the University’ s future for the next quarter century.

Duy-Loan also serves on the Advisory Board for the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Duy-Loan Le has been married to her husband Tuan N. Dao for 24 years. She has two boys, Quy-Dan 13 and Quy-Don 10. She enjoys deep sea fishing, reading, movies, classical music, painting, and playing poker. Duy-Loan also holds a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and has won several medals and trophies in the state of Texas.
