Emily is a junior double major in Psychology and Computer Science at Williams College in Massachusetts. She took her first computer science class on a whim her freshman year and surprised herself by the passion she had for the subject. Emily was raised by her mother, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, so she grew up aware of the problem of sexual violence and have always had a deep respect for work that prevents, responds to, or raises awareness of rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence. When she got to college, Emily started working with her school’s Rape and Sexual Assault Network, a 24-hour student run hotline service, and worked her way up to the position of co-president this year 2014-2015. Now that Emily is thinking seriously about her career post-graduation, as she realizes that she wants the work she began on RASAN to become a major priority in her career, but she is also not ready to give up on they field she has come to appreciate so much. Emily believes in the power of computational technology to help combat societal issues like sexual assault and the gender gap in STEM fields.
