Megan Harwell is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, trying to find her place in the cyber security realm while working as a Cyber Intern for the Department of Justice. Megan, a recipient of the CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service, is working towards a Master’s degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Information Security and Privacy. She is an active member in student organizations where she participates in peer and youth outreach and programs that focus on broadening participation in computing.

“Growing up, I didn’t have an imaginary friend – I had a computer. When I was younger, there was always some new game that I was playing on the computer and I remember having to ask my dad to help me install it because I had no idea what I was doing and the computer was this big scary thing that I didn’t want to break! Eventually, I decided I had had enough of relying on my dad to help me do things on the computer and started teaching myself how to navigate a computer and eventually the Internet. Wanting to know how things worked in the digital world lead me to pursue a career path in computing.”
