Mona Jalal

University of Wisconsin-Madison Scholarship Recipient

I am Mona Jalal, a forthcoming third year PhD student in department of electrical and computer engineering, doing my minor in computer science. I am interested in learning new technologies and attending tech-related conferences to develop my current knowledge. Last summer, I have been a middle school instructor for PEOPLE program designated for minority students in UW-Madison for getting them familiar with engineering fields through hands-on workshops and scheduled field trips (by me). Moreover, I have been teaching assistant and instructor for various courses during my master/PhD programs including computer network laboratory, electronic circuit analysis and hardware language programming courses. Also I have been a web designer/web admin for computational mathematics research group in math department in UW led by professor Amir H. Assadi–while taking Math801– and I am very innovative and vibrant in delivering a course to the students no matter how old they are. Currently I am a Persian language moderator/tutor in Farsi/Persian room as well the marketing chair for free language tutoring website designated for UW-Madison, UW-Seattle and Portland State Universities. In fall 2012, I was the virtual student assistant and instructor for Nephrotex virtual internship for InterEng101 students in UW in which we helped the students accomplish a task online via chat and multimedia tools. As per your job announcement, I am available to work both during winter break and summer time as well. Also according to my field of study, I am familiar with most of the desired skills including CMS, MAC, Win7/8, Ubuntu/Redhat/Fedora, scripting languages, programming languages and some of the graphic programs including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Moreover, having taken part in international teaching assistant tutoring course in spring 2012 gave me the ability to manage a class and get more familiar with student culture in America for being able to communicate with them more efficiently. I have a lot of background in computer architecture and through a 3 week YouTube Data Analysis I realized that I have too much passion in social network data analysis and I am going to take related course and do related research starting fall 2013.
