Aoi co-founded Japanese Women in Computing in 2017 with Rieko Noland and Hikari Tamura. She, Rieko, and Hikari met at GHC in 2016 and felt Japanese women in technology needed a platform to find and empower one another. For those coming from Japan and living in a foreign country, finding someone to relate to culturally and to learn from their experiences would be much more difficult without this community. Aoi is grateful for her affinity group, and would like to continue participating in it so that her experience may help someone, just as she was inspired by others.
