Official Statement from AnitaB.org
At AnitaB.org, our mission is driven by the empowerment and upliftment of women and nonbinary technologists. YOU are the heart of our efforts—the catalyst behind each and every one of our programs, membership opportunities, events, and vital daily conversations.
We recognize the importance of addressing the issues our community members bring forward promptly and effectively. At GHC 23, an unfortunate incident occurred where the safe space we provided for professional growth was compromised. While we cannot take responsibility for the actions of those who violated our safe environment, we can assure you that we take every claim, email, social post, and direct message seriously. Our commitment to restoring safety and inclusivity at GHC 24 is unwavering.
Following last year’s event, we pledged to identify significant changes to enhance your GHC experience. We pride ourselves on making good on our word. Below are outlined just a few of the enhancements we have in store!
- Event Registration and Badging: We are reinforcing the integrity of our opportunities through ID verification via a legal form of ID (i.e. REAL ID, driver’s license, passport), including student status checks at registration purchase.
- Crowd Control and Security: Enhanced badge checks and ID verification will be implemented at venue entrances, throughout the venue, and specifically at the Expo Hall entrances to ensure the integrity of that space.
- GHC Expo Experience: To foster a more intimate and engaging experience, attendees will be assigned to Expo Access Groups, allowing everyone to explore, learn, and network within designated time blocks.
- Code of Conduct: Our updated Code of Conduct holds all attendees accountable for behavior that aligns with our mission. Consent to this code is required to complete the registration process.
Our commitment to inclusivity remains strong, focusing on engaging members, participants, and attendees who support the advancement of women, nonbinary technologists, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Our goal is to ensure that everyone involved in our celebration feels safe and valued.
Thank you to everyone who voiced their experiences. Your feedback is invaluable in our mission to create a better, more secure GHC. We are strongest when we stand together as ‘me+we.’ Let’s all stay vigilant, actively weeding out bad behavior and supporting each other. While one person may challenge an individual, they can’t stand against the united strength of all of us. Together, we are powerful. Now, stand with us and let’s show up with Grit, Heart, and Courage, reclaim our space, and celebrate like the rock stars we are!
