Help Students Survive the COVID-19 Pandemic

In response to the global pandemic, is immediately shifting focus of its Tech Journey Scholarship Fund to provide emergency assistance to women whose technical education journeys have been disrupted by COVID-19.

Aspiring technologists need help NOW. With the cancellation of summer internships and full-time job opportunities, along with uncertainty around financial aid, work study, campus meals and housing, technical women are facing unprecedented obstacles in achieving their educational and career goals. remains committed to supporting their persistence by providing small emergency grants that will help them pay rent, acquire food, address Internet connectivity issues, and so much more. Funds will be made available to eligible women in tech on a first-come, first-serve basis and awards will be limited to a maximum of $599.

Eligibility Criteria

Using a curb-cutting approach, the Tech Journey Scholarship Fund pilot and Emergency Assistance first served the most historically marginalized groups, with a focus on underrepresented women of color pursuing computing degrees at our nation’s esteemed MSIs.

Eligibility for COVID Emergency Assistance is now open to all women in tech who meet the eligibility criteria. At this time, applicants must:

  • Identify as a woman.
  • Demonstrate low-income status, ineligibility to be considered for Federal student aid, or evidence of an urgent need
  • Currently be in pursuit of an undergraduate computing-related degree at an accredited 2- or 4-year institution of higher education in the U.S. (see the application for a complete list of eligible computing degrees)

Helping Aspiring Technologists Stay on Track

The Tech Journey Scholarship Fund, in partnership with the Last Mile Education Fund, helps low income underrepresented women of color stay on track and complete their technical education journeys. During an initial three-month soft launch, the Fund provided a total of $80,000 in funding to 15 women across nine Minority Serving Institutions. This included both small Bridge awards that help address short-term cash-flow issues that can be catastrophic for a low-income student’s pursuit of their degree, as well as Last Mile awards that help students complete the final stages of their educational journeys.

This limited launch is proof that in the best of times, aspiring tech women often only need a small amount of support to help them stay on track toward completion of their education and their pursuit of technical careers.
