   Facial recognition technology has been shown to be less accurate for women and individuals with darker skin tones, leading to real-world harm. For instance, Robert Williams, a Black man, was wrongfully arrested in Detroit due to a faulty algorithm. He was taken away for 30 hours, subject to a lineup and put in a cell, all for a crime he had no part in.

2. AI Used for Scams and Exploitation

   Scammers are using advanced AI to deceive and exploit. A French woman lost $850,000 to a scam where AI convincingly impersonated Brad Pitt. These incidents highlight the lack of accountability and safeguards against misuse, leaving users vulnerable.

Without clear accountability, unethical practices go unchecked, leaving users to deal with the fallout. 

Marginalized communities often bear the brunt of unethical AI. Biased algorithms used in hiring, housing, or law enforcement reinforce inequities, further disadvantaging already vulnerable groups. For instance, studies have shown that AI tools frequently misjudge job candidates from historically excluded backgrounds by relying on biased datasets or algorithms. These tools may favor candidates whose profiles resemble those of previously successful hires—often from overrepresented groups—while penalizing others based on factors such as nontraditional career paths, gaps in employment, or even names that suggest a particular gender or ethnicity.
