AnitaB.org Applauds Supreme Court’s Unanimous Decision on Mifepristone

CHICAGO (June 13, 2024) — Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President and CEO of AnitaB.org, issued the following statement on today’s unanimous Supreme Court ruling to uphold access to the abortion drug Mifepristone:

“AnitaB.org commends the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to uphold access to Mifepristone, marking a pivotal moment for reproductive rights in the United States. This ruling is a victory not only for the health and autonomy of women and nonbinary individuals but also for the pursuit of gender equity in the workplace. Our research shows that 64% of women technologists who are caregivers experience parental discrimination at rates significantly higher than their male peers. Ensuring access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including Mifepristone, is essential to reducing these disparities and enabling technologists to balance their professional and personal lives.

At AnitaB.org, we believe that protecting reproductive rights is integral to our mission of advancing gender equity and inclusion in the tech industry. This decision strengthens our commitment to empowering diverse voices in technology and fostering an inclusive environment where all can thrive. Through our advocacy work and initiatives, we strive to eliminate barriers and create opportunities for women and nonbinary technologists to excel. Today’s ruling not only supports individual rights but also promotes a more equitable and innovative tech community.

This decision is a significant step forward, but our work is far from over. We must safeguard the rights and protections our predecessors have fought for. We call on our community and allies to continue advocating for comprehensive reproductive healthcare and workplace equity. By standing together, we can ensure that all technologists have the support and resources they need to succeed.”
