Project Title: Drexel University College of Computing and Informatics Angela V. Harris Scholarship Fund
Angela is an emerging leader with almost 20 years of information technology experience in the healthcare, insurance, and telecommunications industries. Her diverse background in the field includes a primary focus in project management. Additionally, Angela seeks opportunities to use her natural leadership abilities to make a difference for nonprofits and professional organizations throughout the Philadelphia community. Angela currently works for Independence Blue Cross. She earned a Master of Science in Information Technology Leadership through La Salle University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Angela is deeply committed to helping others, and is especially passionate about causes that support girls and women in growing their talents. She currently serves on a number of boards including The New Century Trust (Co-Chair, Communications Committee) and United Way’s Women United (Co-Chair, Corporate Engagement Committee). Angela is an active member of her church and also mentors women at work and within her community. Angela earned La Salle University’s Academic Achievement Award, the Philadelphia Tribune’s Woman Achieving Award, and the Independence Blue Cross Women’s History Month Award.
In June 2017, Angela established the Angela V. Harris Scholarship fund at Drexel University. This scholarship fund is a $5,000 need based award to provide financial assistance for African American female students studying in Dexel University’s College of Computing and Informatics (CCI). In September 2017, CCI launched a major strategic initiative to grow the number of women students across the College. The Women in Computing Initiative is centered on the recruitment and retention of women in undergraduate majors, with the expressed goal of increasing women students in CCI by 50% in five years.
