Women of Vision Awards Banquet Gathers Tech Industry Elite, Honors Women Making Significant Contributions to Technology

AnitaB.org, a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computer science and engineering, hosted 920 guests last night at its annual Women of Vision Awards Banquet in Santa Clara.

Each year, AnitaB.org brings together hundreds of technology executives, entrepreneurs, industry visionaries, students in STEM fields, and media to celebrate the outstanding contributions of women in technology, and to recognize three exceptional women technologists honored with Women of Vision ABIE Awards for excellence in each of the following categories: Innovation, Leadership, and Social Impact. The honorees were: for Innovation, Dr. Tal Rabin, Manager and research staff member of the Cryptography Research Group at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center; for Leadership, Dr. Maria Klawe, President of Harvey Mudd College; and for Social Impact, Ms. Kathrin Winkler, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President of EMC Corporation. In addition to being recognized, each honoree spoke about her passion and professional journey through her technology career.

Bank of America also accepted the Top Company for Women in Computing ABIE Award for its work to hire, retain, and advance women technologists throughout its organization.

“We are delighted with the success of this year’s Women of Vision Banquet. It brought together guests of all genders, demographics and career paths including senior executives at the largest technology corporations in the world to young women interested in pursuing careers in computing,” said Telle Whitney, CEO of AnitaB.org. “The award winners are great examples of what women leaders in our field are accomplishing.  We were delighted to honor them and highlight their contributions.”

The evening’s keynoter was Hilary Mason, Data Scientist in Residence at Accel Partners, who spoke about her early interest in data science and the importance of remaining open minded, curious, and persistent to fuel innovation in technology. Denise Saiki, chief information officer and vice president of Enterprise Business Services at Lockheed Martin, the event’s dinner host, spoke about the need for diversity in the technology industry and programs like those from AnitaB.org that encourage women in the field.
