Diversity in technology remains a serious problem, as a report from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) shows. Only 20% of executive roles in the U.S. tech sector are held by women, and an even lower percentage are held by people of color. However, since studies have shown that companies benefit from diverse teams and leaders, hiring managers may be more compelled to address this issue and focus on creating more inclusive workforces.
“Research shows that companies that hire more women, people of color, and traditionally underrepresented groups are rewarded with an innovation advantage,” explained Stephanie Rodriguez, Vice President of Policy and Engagement at AnitaB.org. “These companies produce answers to questions that cannot be answered from a singular point of view.
